Straight from the Kitchen: 5 DIY Facial Masks you can make at home |
DIY masks have a really special place in our heart. They're convenient. They're green. And they don't come packed in single-use plastics that make their way straight from you bathroom to landfill (or our precious oceans). As an added bonus, you know exactly what's in them! We've compiled this list of our favourite DIY masks, but first - a word about their role in your beauty routine. |
DIY face masks are a fun, convenient activity to keep your skin looking healthy. |
DIY Facial Masks in Your Beauty RoutineDIY facial masks can give that added boost to your complexion mid-week, or help you deal with minor, one-off irritations - like flaky skin or chapped lips from a colder than usual day at the ski hill. BUT skincare that's backed by science is your best bet against common seasonal ailments and the ravages of time. Relying on scientifically-formulated skincare in your daily routine and mixing that with homemade remedies as needed will unlock your best skin ever. When that science-backed skincare is also ethical, natural, and luxurious, your soul can shine brightly too! Without further ado, here are the DIY facial mask recipes we LOVE: |
The 'Winter is Coming': A Warm DIY Facial Mask for Dry Skin |
Can you think of anything more luxurious than treating yourself (and your skin) to a warm, hydrating facial mask after a long, cold day? Neither can we. | This DIY facial mask is designed to slough away flakey skin and lock in moisture. Oats, with their irregular edges, are perfect for gentle exfoliation. While the honey and avocado work hard to hydrate. |

Ingredients1 cup old-fashioned oats 1/3 cup warm water 1/2 avocado - mashed 2 tablespoons honey |
PreparationPour the warm water over the oats in a mixing bowl. Add the avocado and mix thoroughly, adding more water to reach your desired mask consistency. Bear in mind, the more water, the more gentle the exfoliating action will be. Finally, mix in the honey. Smoosh the mask onto your face, then sit back and relax for ten minutes. We'd suggest you do it in a lovely warm bath. You've earned it! Rinse off with warm water and follow with a moisturizer. Siren Silk is perfect for freshly rinsed, exfoliated skin looking for some added moisture. |
Tame Oily Skin with a DIY Bentonite Clay Mask |
The clays used in masks, like Bentonite, Australian pink clay, and French yellow clay, help you in your fight against oil and impurities. These clays absorb some of the oil from your pores, without promoting overproduction. | So, be sure to use them sparingly (or in conjunction with some hydration) if you've got dry skin and only in your oily zone for combo skin. |

Ingredients3 heaped tablespoons bentonite clay Water 1 lemon wedge or 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar Essential oil (for fragrance - we love frankincense) |
PreparationMix together the ingredients, adding water until you reach your desired consistency. Smear the mixture across your face, then sit back and relax for 20 minutes while the clay works its magic. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. |
Tame Oily Skin with a DIY Bentonite Clay Mask |
Lemon is an awesome natural astringent, while yoghurt (and its magnificent lactic acid properties) is a great natural pore-minimizer and complexion brightener. This mask gives your stressed out skin the quick and easy mid-week boost you're looking for. | Follow it up with your favourite clarifying serum (We love Lumion's Life Saver Serum) for best results. |
